Category: hurricane season

The multi-award-winning photographer Hannah Modigh has been recognized for her harrowing and penetrating depictions of people living in vulnerable situations. In her latest project, "Hurricane Season," she finds herself in the southern part of Louisiana, USA. In this unique and flat landscape, several million of the poorest American citizens reside. It is as if nature itself dictates the level of segregation – the lower the land, the greater the proportion of vulnerable and impoverished.

Hurricanes, which often cost human lives, repeatedly strike these areas, frequently resulting in severe flooding. Through Modigh's poetic imagery, the viewer gains a sense of how the inhabitants have adapted to their extreme environment. Even during the calmer periods, the threat remains, like a surface tension ready to burst.

Hannah Modigh has received numerous accolades for her previous projects, "Hillbilly Heroin," "Honey," and "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down." In the summer of 2016, Hannah Modigh will have a solo exhibition featuring the images from "Hurricane Season" at Fotografiska in Stockholm.

The southern region of Louisiana, where Modigh's latest project is set, is home to several million of the poorest American citizens. This unique and flat landscape is susceptible to the devastating effects of hurricanes, which often result in severe flooding and loss of life. Modigh's poetic and introspective approach to photography allows the viewer to gain a deeper understanding of how the inhabitants of these vulnerable areas have adapted to their extreme surroundings.

Modigh's previous acclaimed projects, such as "Hillbilly Heroin," "Honey," and "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," have also received widespread recognition, solidifying her reputation as a photographer who is not afraid to tackle difficult and socially-relevant subjects. Her ability to capture the human experience in these challenging circumstances has earned her numerous accolades.

In the summer of 2016, Fotografiska in Stockholm will host a solo exhibition featuring Modigh's latest work, "Hurricane Season," which promises to provide a powerful and thought-provoking glimpse into the lives of those living in the shadow of nature's most formidable forces.
